words  insight  music creating harmony
Good communication is not about speaking with the loudest voice; it’s about bringing together multiple voices, creating harmony between your different voices, and between those voices and your listeners. I am a writer and musician, with decades of experience in business communication. I’ve been online and writing for digital media since the internet went mainstream in the mid-90s, and have the craft skills to make the most of different channels, as well as the analytic skills to distinguish a fad from something game-changing. I’ll bring creativity and critical intelligence to any task. I’ll help you go beyond the pious and the routine to find the words you need to say, the stories you need to tell, and the ideas that will draw people in. I’ll make words work for you.
It's an open question as to why managers decided their job was to change behaviour, rather than the simpler and more realistic task of directing it. I'd suggest a few answers, but among the most important is a confusion about identity, and what it is for an organisation to be itself. In this TEDx talk I discuss how this confusion manifests itself in robotic language, which alienates people rather than drawing them closer. The good news is that once you clear away the confusion communication tasks and possibilities become clearer. There's a lot more to be said about this than is possible in a short talk. If you'd like to know more, we could start with an informal conversation. If you'd like to bring a fresh and critical intelligence to the ways you think about communication we could also start with an informal conversation. Just contact me on paul@brasington.co.uk and let's set something up.
